Squad Members Tour New Home

Members of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad recently took a tour of the construction site on Elm St. to check out the progress of their new headquarters.  While the weather has caused a few delays, work is progressing and the Squad looks forward to moving into their new building this spring.

Squad Members Support Frozen Turkey Drive

Once again, members of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad were out in force to help the Annual Frozen Turkey Drive on November 23.  The event is organized by the Other Fellow First Foundation, and takes place each year on Union Place just accross from The Summit Diner, also a supporter of the event.  This year also included a "Frozen Turkey Ride" sponsored by Hilltop Bicycles.  Four members of the First Aid Squad were among the almost 40 riders who participated in 12-mile ride from Hilltop Bicyles that included a stop at Kings Food Market in Summit to purchas

Squad Participates in Chamber Golf Outing

Summit First Aid Squad volunteers Jerry Madden, Dave Schempp, Ken Herr and Steve Brown represented the Squad at the Suburban Chamber of Commerce Annual Golf Outing.

Squad Volunteers Make Long Journey to Cover "Stokes"

Squad Sponsors Emergency Preparedness Event on September 30

September is National Preparedness Month, and FEMA has designated Tuesday, September 30 as a "National PrepareAthon" day.  The First Aid Squad will help Summit participate by hosting a session “Are You Ready?” at 7 PM at the Summit Recreation Center, 100 Morris Ave.  Participants will learn how to create a disaster plan, build a supply kit, make the “stay or go” decision, and take steps to ensure their safety. Information from the American Red Cross, the City’s newly formed Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) and our Police and Fire departments will also be available.

Mayor Proclaims September Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Month

At the September 16 Common Council Meetng, Mayor Ellen Dickson issued a proclamation designating September as Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Mionth.  Squad President John Christmann also updated the City Council on the progress of the new building.  The Squad and Council honored Chip Duane for his outstanding support of the Squad during the construction project.  See the article in The Alternative Press: Click Here

Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad meets $5 million Capital Campaign goal

John Christmann, president of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad, reported to the Summit Common Council that the First Aid Squad has met its capital campaign goal, raising the $5 million necessary to replace its 50-year-old headquarters building.

End of an Era for Original First Aid Squad Building

During the summer, the original Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad building was demolished to make way for a new headquarters and construction is well underway. The original building served the First Aid Squad for 50 years.  Read the article published in the Independent Press:  Click Here




Summit First Aid Squad's junior member program turns 44

To hear Mike D’Ecclessis tell the story, the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad owes the existence of its junior member program to Father John McGovern at St. Teresa of Avila Church. “He was the one who said, ‘You guys should be doing something for the community,’” said D’Ecclessis.
